Is There a Crack in The New Harbor Bridge in Corpus Christi?

If you are from Corpus Christi or go to Corpus Christi, you feel like the new Harbor Bridge will never be finished. I mean, it is almost ten years into construction. The ground breaking for the new bridge was in August of 2016 and constructions started shortly after!

It will be an incredible sight when completed.

When completed the bridge sill peak at 538 feet tall with clearance for 205 feet for boats and barges to pass under, according to fdcrop.com. This bridge will be the tallest structure in South Texas. When you look at it, it looks majestic and dwarfs the current bridge, However, there have long been discussions about bridge safety.

Is there structural problems before the bridge even opens?

In recent posts to Facebook, Corpus Christi Crónica posted two different times about a crack in the bridge. The images allegedly shows a "tension fracture" on a southbound column.

Bridge developer comments on the crack concern:

According to a news report by KIII in Corpus Christi,  Lynn Allison who is a spokesperson for Flatiron Dragados gave the following statement.

“I saw this post on Facebook, and I don’t really acknowledge media that isn’t credible,” Allison said. “But I have to say, there were some comments about this being a crack. Please do not have any concerns — this is not a crack. This is a leak hole for drainage. If you look to the right, they are in each one of the segments.”

 

Will you be afraid to drive over the new bridge?

I personally can't wait to drive over the new bridge in Corpus Christi. The Ribbon cutting for the new Harbor Bridge is scheduled for June28th.
