The City of Victoria was named a finalist for the Texas Downtown President’s Award in the Best Public Improvement category for the De Leon Plaza Expansion Project.

The De Leon Plaza Expansion Project was one of 98 entries in 11 categories. Winners were chosen based on creativity, innovation, best practices, public/private partnership and successful solutions to downtown revitalization issues and concerns.

The De Leon Plaza Expansion Project includes a performance pavilion, a public restroom, additional seating, food truck connections and other improvements to the historic De Leon Plaza. The expansion was unveiled during Victoria’s bicentennial celebration and has improved the plaza’s capacity to host public and privately organized events in downtown Victoria.

“We are excited to be named a finalist for the Texas Downtown President’s Awards,” said City of Victoria Main Street Manager Kate Garcia. “The De Leon Plaza expansion has become a beloved community gathering place, fostering creativity, cultural exchange and a strong sense of civic pride.”

Also, RMA Architects & Interior Designers earned the President’s Award in the Best Renovation/Rehabilitation/Restoration category for the architecture firm’s work on 5D Tavern in downtown Victoria.
