Aerial Footage of Multiple Vehicles Submerged in Houston Flooding

A video out of Houston in the wake of Hurricane Beryl demonstrates why they say, “Turn around, don’t drown.” 

Hurricane Beryl made landfall near Matagorda before dawn yesterday morning (July 8), bringing heavy rains, tornadoes, and flooding along with it. At least eight people in Texas and Louisiana lost their lives in the hurricane, according to Axios.

The storm eventually made its way to Houston, causing widespread flooding. The below video shared on X shows dozens of cars stalled in the flood waters off I-45. 

Flooding is the number one cause of severe weather-related deaths. Each year flooding in the U.S. kills more people than tornadoes, hurricanes, or lightning. 

Flash floods are the most dangerous types of floods, according to NOAA: 

Flash floods are the most dangerous kind of floods, because they combine the destructive power of a flood with incredible speed. Flash floods occur when heavy rainfall exceeds the ability of the ground to absorb it, or when enough water accumulates for streams to overtop their banks, causing rapid rises of water in a short amount of time. They can happen within minutes of the causative rainfall, limiting the time available to warn and protect the public.
