Texas is pulling out the big guns on a major cereal brand that hasn't delivered on its promise to ditch unhealthy additives in its products.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has officially launched an investigation into Kellogg’s. Over the weekend, his office started looking into the cereal brand for possibly misleading families by marketing its sugary, artificially colored cereals as healthy.

Kellog's is responsible for some of your most delicious childhood morning memories like: Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Frosted Flakes, and Rice Krispies. All childhood staples and all include synthetic dyes like Red 40, Yellow 5, and Blue 1.

What's so bad about food dyes?

These particular dyes are petroleum-based colorings that have been tied to hyperactivity in kids, obesity, and even some major health concerns like endocrine issues and cancer.

Paxton didn’t hold back. “Companies can’t just slap a ‘healthy’ label on food loaded with artificial junk and expect to get away with it,” he said. “Parents deserve honesty, and kids deserve better.”

Kellog makes unfilled promises.

Kellogg’s actually promised back in 2015 to ditch artificial ingredients by 2018. Unfortunately, I guess promises are meant to be broken because many of their products still contain them.

Paxton isn't the only person who is fed up. Recently, actress Eva Mendes helped lead a protest last year outside Kellogg’s headquarters and over 400,000 people signed a petition pushing for change.

Kellogg’s responded last October saying their products follow “all applicable laws” and that they’re committed to clear labeling.

Many other brands made the push to get rid of their artificial dyes which resulted in many nostalgic snacks disappearing from shelves.
