
Killeen Texas Middle School Locked Down After 1 Student Killed
A middle school in Killeen, Texas was sent into immediate shutdown after an altercation on campus turned deadly.
Monday morning, just before noon, Roy J. Smith Middle School in Killeen, Texas was faced with a tragic situation. At 11:25 am two female students got into an altercation that quickly got out of hand.
During the chaos, one of the students, a 14-year-old girl, was stabbed. Shortly after, the fight was broken up, and helped was called in. Within 7 minutes, the injured student began to receive emergency care and was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.
SCHOOL QUICKLY SENDS OUT UPDATES
Families quickly received a text message from Principal Fred Lilly, notifying them of the situation, “Smith Families, we want to inform you of a situation that occurred on our campus this morning. A student was injured and is being transported to receive medical care," the message read.
The school was put on lockdown as officials and staff got the situation under control. Within that time, the student suspected of the stabbing was arrested. Students were transported to a nearby church where pickups were safely arranged.
“We understand that this may be concerning, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff are our highest priority. We will update you as soon as possible,” Lilly's message added.
A TRAGIC UPDATE
Tragically, the female student died from her injuries, prompting an update from the school district:
“Killeen ISD is deeply saddened to share the tragic news that happened at Roy J. Middle School,” the independent school district’s executive director Karen Rudolph said in a statement.
