If you’ve spent any time in Victoria, you’ve met Brother Gary Moses.
A man with an unbelievable memory and the biggest and most organic influencer in the city of Victoria. Brother Gary was hospitalized recently, and as soon as that news hit town, everyone started checking in and looking for updates.

I’ll never forget the first time I met Gary Moses.

It was during midnight breakfast at UHV. I sat across from him, and he immediately sparked up a conversation like we were old friends. Then he looks at me and goes, “You were never one of my students.” The years have passed, and I’m still impressed by how this man remembers everyone and everything.
He’s everywhere and dubbed the unofficial mayor of Victoria. It’s funny hearing people try to figure out where Brother Gary works since he is entangled with just about every company and event in town, but he’s actually got a real day job!
He’s taught half this town, 7th-grade history at Patti Welder, to be exact. He ran Parks and Recreation and is currently the Community Relations for Citizens, which might be the most appropriate job for a man that’s  basically community relations for the entire city.

I spoke with his close friend and co-host of “This Week in Victoria,” Chris Doelle, and he shared how the two first met.

When I was in high school, I first met him. He helped me put together a hacky sack tournament at the park, and I just loved the man.” Doelle moved away but returned to Victoria about 40 years later and ran into Brother Gary. “The first thing he told me when he saw me was, ‘Hey, hacky sack man!’”
I asked how Brother Gary’s doing, and Doelle reassured me that his recovery “ looks positive.” However, while we wait for that big smile to be back out in the wild, something amazing has been set up.

Special Call-In Line Set Up

While he’s recovering, Victoria has the chance to return the enthusiasm Gary Moses has spread across town for decades. Doelle is putting together a special “This Week in Victoria” episode full of YOUR stories and well-wishes, something he can listen to during his recovery.
There’s a special call-in line where you can leave up to a three-minute message. Share a memory, a joke, a thank-you, or whatever Brother Gary would love to hear.
