The Explosion

According to the Austin Fire Department, emergency crews arrived on the scene to find a two-story home completely reduced to rubble, a neighboring house suffering major structural damage, and a vehicle on fire. The affected area includes several neighborhoods—where debris littered lawns and shattered windows.

Six people were reported injured in the explosion, including two residents from the leveled home. One person is in critical condition, and the other remains in serious but stable condition. Firefighters also rescued two individuals—one from the destroyed house and another from a nearby home. Two firefighters and an additional civilian suffered minor injuries.

The force of the explosion was so intense that it could be heard as far away as Georgetown, over 25 miles to the north. Cedar Park police confirmed that reports of a "loud boom" came flooding in shortly after the incident, shaking homes and nerves alike across the area.

As of Sunday evening, the Austin Fire Department confirmed that all residents from the destroyed and adjacent homes have been accounted for, and no spot fires remain. Early rumors of a possible plane crash were quickly ruled out by investigators.

What Caused the Explosion?

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. The Travis County Fire Marshal is taking the lead in determining what sparked the blast that shook the community.

Austin first responders, including police, EMS, and multiple fire crews, remain on site to assist affected families and begin the long cleanup process. It’s a reminder of how quickly life can change—and how strong communities come together to rebuild!
