30th Anniversary of the Passing of Selena Quintanilla Perez
On March 31, 1995, Selena Quintanilla-Perez was shot by Yolanda Saldivar at a Days Inn on Navigation in Corpus Christi. Like many, I still remember what I was doing when I heard the news. Did you ever get to see Selena perform?
Yolanda Saldivar was denied parole.
Two years before Selena's final Astrodome show in February of 1995. Selena performed for a sold-out crowd at the Riverside Convention Center in Victoria, Texas. This performance was just months before her biggest album release, "Amor Prohibido' which brought us mega hits "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom," "El Chico del Apartamento 512," "No Me Queda Mas," and more.
At the time of this concert in 1993, her biggest hits were 'La Carcacha,' and 'Como La Flor.' and that was enough for Headliner status and enough to sell out the Riverside. Selena performed her final show on February 26,1995 at the Astrodome during Rodeo Houston. This is the concert that gave us that iconic purple Selena jumpsuit with over 61,000 fans in attendance. She wasn't the only Tejano legend to take the stage. Emilio Navaira opened for Selena at that legendary show. This is the concert that gave us that iconic purple Selena jumpsuit with over 61,000 fans in attendance. Rest in Peace to two Tejano legends. Selena also performed at the Houston Rodeo in 1993 as well.
