Gregory-Portland middle schooler Kendall Ramos, who is a cheerleader and plays volleyball was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, this past summer. What hard news to receive over her Summer Vacation.  It was at that point that her teammates and basically her whole school would come together to show their support for her.

As reported by KRIS-TV in Corpus Christi, They came up with 'Rally for Ramos' to raise money to support her and her family during her battle with cancer and chemotherapy. They also want to raise awareness for osteosarcoma as well. Over the summer they have raised over $10,000 with the sale of Spirit wear and taking donations.  #kendallstrong

At a recent, pep-rally Kendall was surprised!   Her volleyball coach pulled her onto the court. The crowd and her team did not hold back their cheers of support. Her volleyball team had just raised another  $1000.00 for her and her family.  Kendall has become the heartbeat of Gregory Portland Middle School. In the article, her teammate and close friend Raeleigh Devine says,  “She’s been doing amazing with everything, such a positive person, such a great attitude through it all”  Just another example of Texans helping Texans!

According to the American Cancer Society, Osteosarcoma (also called osteogenic sarcoma) is the most common type of cancer that starts in the bones. The cancer cells in these tumors look like early forms of bone cells that normally help make new bone tissue, but the bone tissue in osteosarcoma is not as strong as that in normal bones. Most osteosarcomas occur in children, teens, and young adults. Teens are the most commonly affected age group, but osteosarcoma can develop at any age.
