A Texas Woman Was Charged with a Felony Over An Unreturned VHS Tape

Just when you thought you were in the clear, BAM! They find you.

Let this be a lesson to all the evil doers in the world - even the ones that think they may have gotten away a heinous crime such as unreturned library books or even an unreturned VHS tape from over 20 years ago.

The system is very patient. They will wait for you to slip up, and once you do it's over.

They will find you.

McBride is a former Oklahoma resident who now resides in Texas. She recently went to have her name changed following her marriage. That's when she found out she had a felony embezzlement charge on her record for not returning a VHS tape of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” she had rented in 1999 from Movie Place, which went out of business in 2008.

After finding out about the felony on her record, McBride told KOKH-TV  “I thought I was gonna have a heart attack. They told me that I had an issue in Oklahoma and this was the reference number for me to call this number and I did. Meanwhile, I’m a wanted felon.”

The court documents show that she was charged in March of 2000 for felony embezzlement of rented property.

McBride thinks the rental was from a former roommate that had kids and simply forgot to return it.

The good news is that the charges were eventually dropped by the Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office. McBride will still need to get her case expunged in order to clear her record.

Let this serve as a warning to those who think they've masterminded a plan to get away with even the pettiest of crimes. Justice may be a blind goddess but she always waiting and will find you eventually.
