Someone in Edna pulled a fast one over the weekend and now all the recently placed stop signs are missing.

What Happened to the Stop Signs?

Edna Police arrived in the office on Tuesday morning to a phone that was ringing off the hook. You see recently, several residents of the town spoke to the police department about multiple vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed down both Washington and Erie streets. In response to these complaints, Police placed stop signs along a portion of both streets to address concerns and attempt to slow down residential traffic. In a story shared by Cristian Delgado with Crossroadstoday.com, those stop signs are now all reported to be missing.

Police are Concerned for the Safety of Kids in the Area

One of the reasons these stop signs were places along Washington and Erie streets after hearing of the complaints is the number of children who live in the area. These children are often playing in their front yard near the street. Speeding vehicles and kids at play do not mix.

Police in Edna say there will be a misdemeanor thief charge waiting for whoever may have removed the stop signs.

Edna Police Chief, Rick Boone told Crossroadstoday.com that, "The person that removed them or stole the signs, probably aren’t looking into the level of the danger that they’re putting those kids that are crossing that road thinking that stop signs are there and the vehicle coming is gonna stop and it doesn’t because the stop signs were removed."

Temporary Stop Signs are Now In Place

Until the stolen signs can be found, police have installed temporary signs. They look just like normal stop signs but instead of being placed in the ground, they are placed in a sign stand much like a Christmas tree is placed in a stand.
