Before They Were The Hometown Boys, They Were Conjunto Internacional
A recent post on our KLUB Tejano Facebook page showed just how much the original Hometown Boys are loved. The post was simple, and the response was massive! We thank KLUB Tejano listener Carlos Guerra for sharing his personal photo.
THE ORIGINALS: The original FOUR of the Hometown Boys featuring the original accordion abuser, Joe Martinez! A sound like no other!
What some might not know, is the Hometown Boys wasn't the group's original name.
The original name of the Hometown Boys was Conjunto International and they were coined as the "Original Party Animal Conjunto." The early days featured Ricky, Joe, Roman, and Jesse on the drums. Check out this awesome picture that was shared by KLUB listener Reynaldo Jasso.
Reynaldo Jasso, KLUB Listener
Jasso shared that he had 45 years in the Tejano music radio industry, taking the airwaves in multiple cities across Texas, including Corpus Christi, Houston, Conroe, and Lubbock, the hometown of the Hometown Boys.
The original four are the GOATS of Conjunto music.
When THB burst onto the scene, their sound ushered in a new sound to the Conjunto genre. Their sound was one of a kind, and their chemistry was special, and Mr. Joe Martinez was a beast on the accordion. My personal favorite jams from the Hometown Boys are "La Luces De Nueva York" and "Carta Jugada."
Over the years, health problems, have taken its toll on the Hometown Boys. Mr. Roman Martinez is the last Hometown Boy standing and currently keeps the groups legacy alive and still performs with the group.
