5 People Tragically Killed After Head-On Collision on Hwy 87
5 people in McKinney, Texas are dead after a preventable car accident sent two vehicles smashing into each other head-on.
NO PASSING ZONE
Early Monday morning 4 men were traveling northbound on Hwy 87 in a white Mazda sedan. Around 7:30 am, the driver of the Mazda decided to pass up vehicles in front of him. According to DPS, the Mazda tried passing vehicles in a no-passing zone.
SEVERE HEAD-ON COLLISION
As the Mazda pulled out and accelerated to pass vehicles up, it crashed head-on into a black Nissan SUV that was traveling in the southbound lane. The impact of the crash was so severe, 5 people were killed.
DPS released the identities of the victims:
- 16 year old, Orland Machorro-Ramos
- 32-year-old, Nelson Rivera-Aguilar
- 30 year old, Jose Gonzalez-Galvez
- 28-year-old, Kevin Portillo
- 32-year-old, Nathan Malosh
COMMUNITY EXPRESSES CONCERNS
Andrew Valenzuela regularly commutes down that stretch of highway and expressed concerns, "People get into little fender benders there coming around that big turn coming around." He added, "A lot of people street race. It is a long stretch of highway. Every morning you will see people speeding through there cutting it close on those turns."
TRAGEDY STRIKES ON ONE TEXAS HIGHWAY
Just recently, another fatal wreck on a Texas highway left one infant motherless.
While a woman was driving down the highway with her 6-month-old daughter in the backseat, a nearby semi-truck suddenly had 2 tires pop off. Shockingly, the tires flew over and struck Micole Cromer's SUV.
