Conquering Allergies: Dallas And Top Cities Combat Springtime Pollen

This time of year can be awful for allergies. Springtime is the worst, as everything blossoms: trees, flowers, and grass return from their dormant state. 

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, Dallas, Texas, made the Top 10 list for seasonal allergies.

The top 10 most challenging places to live with seasonal allergies are:

Wichita, Kansas

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Greenville, South Carolina

Dallas, Texas

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Tulsa, Oklahoma

Richmond, Virginia

Des Moines, Iowa

Raleigh, North Carolina

Fayetteville, Arkansas

Surprisingly, more Texas cities didn't make the list. The state has so many plants, trees, and grasses that you would think every city in Texas is an allergy petri dish.

The 2024 Allergy Capitols report based the rankings on the following factors: 

• Tree, grass, and weed pollen scores
• Over-the-counter allergy medicine use
• Availability of board-certified allergists/immunologists

Many of us suffer through the season with tissues and medications, trying to survive. 

Seasonal allergies don't discriminate. Young and old have them; Dallas, Texas, is the last place they should live. Having spent time there, I remember the Dogwoods and Cottonwoods wreaking havoc on my allergies.

At least Texas isn't like Oklahoma, which has TWO cities on the list, Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

• Manage your contact with pollen
• Use allergy medicines and treatments
• Rinse out your nose
• Ask your doctor about immunotherapy

Spring is beautiful in Texas, but for some people, there is a price to pay for the blossoming.
