A New Friday Night Lights Series Is Coming Back to Texas
(KNUE-FM) It’s crazy to think that it’s been nearly 20 years since Texas football was highlighted in the popular TV show ‘Friday Night Lights’. According to My San Antonio, it was a series that truly helped the Central Texas film industry in a big way. But there is a reboot in the works that fans are excited about, and it will stream on Peacock.
What We Know About the Friday Night Lights Reboot
Many of the same people that made the first series memorable will be returning to revitalize the series. The new series will follow a high school football team after a devastating hurricane as it fights for a Texas high school state championship, that was reported by Peacock in 2024.

Will the Reboot Be Filmed in Central Texas?
There are still a lot of questions about the new series, including whether filming will take place in Central Texas. The original series was mostly filmed in Austin and Pflugerville.

Which Original Stars and Creators Are Returning?
There will be lots of answers to the questions fans have at a 20th anniversary special that is planned in May at the ATX TV Festival. In attendance at the festival will be a showrunner from the original series, Jason Katims. Other show creators will be there too including David Hudgins, Jeffrey Reiner, Liz Heldens and Kerry Ehrin as well as actors Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and Adrianne Palicki.
It’s going to be fun to see how this project develops. If you’re excited about the new series now might be the perfect time to reread the book or rewatch the original series. One thing is certain: Texans are already excited to see how this reboot turns out.
