Could this be the future of buying alcohol in Texas?

A video shared on X shows a person having to scan their ID to access the beer coolers at a QT in Oak Cliff. After scanning the ID, the system asked him to select which doors he wanted to open.

Of course, there are some interesting theories in the comments on the video.

There are those who think it’s a security measure to prevent stealing. Admittedly, that was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the clip. But if someone really wanted to steal beer, they could go in behind someone else who just opened a door and grab some beer, and run.

Another theory is that this could be the first step toward having a store without any human employees. That may very well be the case. If they can operate a McDonald’s without humans, they could easily do it with a convenience store. That said, you would still need a human to verify the ID.

Whatever the case may be, don’t be surprised if one of these systems shows up in a convenience store near you.
