In news that could only happen in San Antonio, the San Antonio Zoo recently hosted a Quinceañera for Merry the Gorilla's 15th birthday. Yes, you read that right!  This is one of the things that I love about San Antonio: our Mexican culture is embedded in everything.
On May 10, the San Antonio Zoo posted about Merry's Quinceañera on social media. They decorated the gorilla pit with fiesta colors and a piñata! The only thing they were missing was a mariachi group and padrinos to pay for the venue. If you know, you know.
Quinceañeras or Quinceañeros are a right of passage in Mexican culture. Yes, the boys get a 15 celebration as well; they are just less common. The early part of the event is the religious or symbolic part of the event. Following dinner, that is when the party vibe and dancing take over.

Usually, when I think of Quinceañeras, certain songs come to mind:  "El Baile De Gorilla" from Massore, "Amor" Emanuelle Cortes, "Intentalo" 3 BalMty," and "Danza Kuduro" Don Omar, just to name a few for the kids.
Also trending for Quince's in Victoria is the throwback vibes from the 90s and 2000s, including artists such as Keyshia Cole, Mark Morrison, "Return of the Mack," and you can't forget all of the line dances.
