Tejano Icon Ruben Ramos is Recovering From Vocal Cord Surgery

"El Gato Negro" Ruben Ramos is recovering from vocal surgery. The new was shared via the Ruben Ramos Facebook page. Ruben Ramos who is now 85 years old has had health problems recently including a triple bypass heart surgery back in 2018. However, he continues to perform for big crowds and has a big following with a rich history in Victoria, Texas. Prayers for a speedy recovery for Ruben and we hope to see him in Victoria later this year.

Ruben Ramos most recent performance in Victoria happened at Z Venue in August of 2024! At the time of the performance, Ruben was 84 and sounded incredible. Check a recap of the awesome venue.

Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution also did a show with KLUB Tejano back in August 2022.

If you grew up in Victoria, you know that Ruben Ramos and Little Joe have a rich history here, especially at the Club Westerner.  Mr. Villafranca had so many close relationships with so many of the stars. Including a wonderful relationship with Ruben and Little Joe .

Little Joe recently celebrated 68 years of performing in Victoria at the Cinco de Mayo celebration. His first performance in Victoria was over 68 years ago in 1957, also at DeLeon Plaza. So he is back where it all started for him in Victoria. He also mentions Check a clip of him performing by clicking here. Mr. Villafranca passed away on October 2nd,2007 but the Villafranca family continues the legacy of Mr. John Manuel Villafranca and the Club Westerner.
