When I first moved to Texas back in 1996 (wow, has it been that long?) I was impressed with how polite people were. I'd go to H.E.B. or, pretty much any business establishment in town, and the employees would always speak politely to me saying "please" and "thank you," and referring to me as "sir," to which I would usually respond with "call me Adam. My Dad is the 'sir' of the family."

These days however, you just don't hear it as much. Don't get me wrong, I do hear it, just not as often. One thing I do hear in public quite a bit though is cursing.

I do plenty of it, just not in public. According to an article originally published by the research firm Marchex, Texas is the 4th state least likely to curse.

Based on surveys of phone calls to customer service reps at various companies, the states where people are most likely to curse are as follows:

1. Ohio

2. Maryland

3. New Jersey

4. Louisiana

5. Illinois

The states least likely to curse?

1. Washington

2. Massachusetts

3. Arizona

4. Texas

5. Virginia

At this point, I would normally look for some way to throw in a cheap punch line like "I call bullsh*t on that" or, "What, are you sh*tting me?" but, I don't want to stoop to that level.
