Texas Day Trip: Poteet Strawberry Festival

We're headed to Poteet, Texas. The Strawberry capital of the Lone Star State is getting ready for the 74th Annual Strawberry Festival coming up on April 9, 10, and 11. The beginnings of the festival go all the way back to 1948 and over the years the Strawberry Festival has become a major attraction for those in the Southwest despite the strawberry's status as an endangered crop.

If you want to plan a trip to Poteet for the festival in just under two weeks it's about a two-hour drive towards San Antonio and well worth the trip. You'll know you are getting close to Poteet when you see the giant strawberry atop the 130-foot water tower peeking over the treetops.

The festival features a parade, a Taste of Texas food show which is well worth the drive, and you don't want to miss out on the strawberry auction. This year's entertainment will not disappoint with Flatland Calvary and David Lee Garza on April 9th, Rick Trevino and Kevin Fowler on April 10th, and Wade Bowen and the Spazmatics closing out the festival on April 11th. 

Entertainment on the Festival stage will also include barrel racing, a dinosaur walk, a gunfighters demonstration, a magic show, and a hypnotist. Admission at the gate will be $10 on Friday, and $20 on Saturday and Sunday.

If you visit the festival this year, they will be following COVID-19 safety precautions. Masks and social distancing may change the festival a little this year, but we are so glad to see that it is still on for April. Pet's are not allowed on the festival grounds, however, service animals are ok.
