THROWBACK THURSDAY: Roberto’s Cocktails in Victoria
It's always fun to take it back! If you grew up in Victoria and are Tejano and Proud, chances are that you saw Tejano stars perform at Roberto Cocktails. I know there are some other Tejano hotspots in Victoria, but I can't find any pictures of them.
So if you have pictures of West Key, the OK Corral, Club Feugo, Tejano Country, or other spots from back in the day. Please send them my way at JP@townsquaremedia.com, and we will showcase them on our sites.
All of the big Tejano stars played at Roberto's Cocktails.
The nineties was an awesome time to be a Tejano fan in Victoria. There were so many great clubs and venues that featured Tejano music, including Sun Valley Ranch, Riverside, Fuego, Bluebonnet, West Key, G-Town, and many more.
However, I personally feel that Roberto's featured the most Tejano dances. Every weekend, you could drive by the club on Navarro, and you would see who would be performing the upcoming weekend. The dancefloor was tiny, the stage was in the back corner, the place was packed every weekend, and it was lit! Good times.
Ram Herrera, La Diferenzia, David Lee Garza, Intocable, Michael Salgado, Jaime y Los Chamacos, The Original Hometown Boys, Rubén Ramos, Xelencia, Masizzo, and Albert Zamora. Those are just the ones that I remember; I know there are so many more.
.
I felt like Roberto's was Albert Zamora Y Grupo Talento's home in Victoria. He played there at least every couple of months. I also remember seeing a very young Joey JMZ Jimenez drumming for Xelencia on that stage, too.
