‘Warcraft’ Concept Art and Details Reveal an Ambitious World
Over the weekend, director Duncan Jones paid a visit to BlizzCon 2013 and revealed some concept art from his upcoming 'Warcraft' film to a room full of players and fans. The director also divulged a few details about the plot and casting of this ambitious project, based on the popular online roleplaying game. We've been curious to see even just one bit of artwork -- or anything -- to give us an idea as to how Jones is approaching the world of 'Warcraft,' and this sneak peek is quite satisfying.
Kotaku was in attendance at BlizzCon 2013 and reported back with some photographic evidence of the concept art for 'Warcraft,' which you can see below. Duncan Jones spoke about the plot of the film, which is said to follow Anduin Lothar and Durotan, a human and an Orc, respectively, and players from the classic real-time 'World of Warcraft' game. Jones wants to make both sides of the human and Orc struggle equally compelling, inspiring the audience to be able to empathize with either side.
The special effects supervisor for the film is Bill Westenhofer, who's actually a 'Warcraft' player and fan. Westenhofer says the orcs will be real people in make-up instead of CG effects, and adds "The swords that are being built are the biggest swords a human being can wield."
'Warcraft' begins shooting in Vancouver early next year, and Colin Farrell and Paula Patton have been rumored to star. Until we get more information, you can check out the concept art below, which features -- in order -- Draenor, the home of the Orcs; Dalaran, the city of magic; Ironforge, city of dwarves; and Stormwind, where the Alliance is seated.
