Whataburger Issues Statement on Camera Found in Women’s Toilet at Texas Location
We're not talking about a camera in the bathroom, the camera was literally inside of the toilet lid.
This past Friday at a Whataburger in Abilene, a woman found something very strange in the restroom. The woman has chosen to remain anonymous. She said she went to the Whataburger restroom at the location on South 1st and Pioneer Drive. After flushing the toilet, she noticed a strange circle near the rim of the bowl.
She decided to look a little closer and saw what appeared to be a camera lens. She then saw a bunch of wires that were connecting to the back of the toilet. The woman ripped the device out of the toilet, ran to her car and immediately called the police.
Abilene police said they were unsure if the camera was taking still photos of videos. Police said they are also working to determine if the suspect(s) would have to retrieve recordings or if the images were being transmitted live. Police also said they are investigating to find who is responsible. There have been no reports of more cameras or incidents like this.
Whataburger issued this statement below on the incident:
At Whataburger it’s our goal to make sure families feel safe and comfortable at each of our restaurants, and this is truly a concerning claim. We take matters such as this very seriously. As soon as we heard of the allegation, we immediately launched an investigation of our own and are working closely with local police. This is an active investigation and we ask that questions be directed to Abilene Police Department as we continue supporting their efforts.” – Whataburger Corporate Communications.
