Winter Games of Texas Kick off in the Crossroads
Victoria residents will have a chance to see the state’s top amateur athletes compete during the first weekend of the 2023 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Winter Games of Texas.
The following events will take place Jan. 13-16:
· Archery: STX Archery & Outdoors, 87 Dincans St., Inez; 6 p.m. Jan. 13, 9 a.m. Jan. 14 and 9 a.m. Jan. 15.
· Cornhole: Victoria Community Center, 2905 E. North St.; 6 p.m. Jan. 13, 10:30 a.m. Jan. 14 and 9 a.m. Jan. 15
· Pickleball: VISD District Event Center; 1006 Sam Houston Drive, 9 a.m. Jan. 14-16.
· Swimming: VISD Aquatics Center, 1006 Sam Houston Drive; 8 a.m. Jan. 14 and 9 a.m. Jan. 15.
· Wheelchair basketball: Victoria East High School, 4103 East Mockingbird Lane; 9 a.m. tipoff Jan. 14-15.
· Youth tennis: Victoria Country Club, 14 Spring Creek Road; 9 a.m. Jan. 14-15.
Start times are subject to change based on attendance and other factors. Information about individual events is available at www.victoriatx.gov/tournaments.
Additional sports will be hosted Feb. 25-26 and March 4-6.
Become a volunteer
The City is seeking residents to serve as hospitality hosts and tournament support volunteers during all three weekends. Volunteers can choose which sports they want to attend, and every volunteer will receive a free T-shirt.
To sign up, contact the City’s Sports Tourism Manager Michelle Myers at 361-485-3204 or mmyers@victoriatx.gov. The deadline to register as a volunteer for the January games is Jan. 12.
An orientation meeting for those volunteering at the January games will be hosted 5-6:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Victoria Community Center. Attendance is optional but encouraged.
Stay connected
The City will kick off the games 3:30 p.m. Jan. 12 with a ceremony that will be livestreamed on Facebook at City of Victoria, Texas – Government.
