Zodiacal Features The Next Generation of Tejano Musicians
West Texas continues to bring us the next generation of Tejano music with Asalto, Jai Sterling, Anthony Patterson, and now Grupo Zodiacal! Zodiacal is from the small town of Tahoka, Texas, located about 30 miles south of Lubbock, Texas. This is the next generation of Tejano and Norteno music.
The teenage group is led by 15-year-old SalomE Lopez.
All members of the group are teenagers. Salome Lopez is 15 and the lead singer, and plays the accordion. Dom Lopez is also 15 and plays the bajo quinto. Josiah Quinonez plays bass and is a backup singer. Joe Lopez plays the drums and is only 14 years old. Incredible. Jaden Garza is the guitarist and is also 15 years old.
Inspiration for Zodiacal came from an accordion in their grandpa's pool room.
Our very own Bo Corona caught up with them last Friday afternoon. The group's musical styles are inspired by Ramon Ayala, Intocable, Los Palominos, and Secretto, just to name a few. They were also influenced by Solomon's grandfather, even though he didn't play music, he had an accordion in his pool room. That was the inspiration behind Zodiacal.
The new single 'Ven' is now trending on KLUB Tejano 106.9.
Their new single "Ven" has just dropped and has a great cumbia vibe. You will hear the influences of groups such as Solido and Secretto. You can also hear the new single trending on KLUB Tejano 106.9.
