Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup Removes 156,699 Pounds of Trash from Texas Beaches
This past Saturday was not only Earth Day but, it was also the 2017 Spring Adopt-A-Beach cleanup around Texas. Put on by the Texas General Land Office, the cleanup takes place twice each year, with volunteers spending a few hours cleaning up garbage from Texas beaches, and this year was another big success.
Official totals for the event show 6,772 volunteers worked at 28 locations and picked up 156,699 pounds of garbage from 146 miles of Texas coastline. That's huge!
Since the program began in 1986, over half a million volunteers have removed nearly 9,500 tons of garbage from beaches and coastline in the state.
The next Adopt-A-Beach cleanup is set for Saturday, September 23rd.
