Consumer Alert: Phone Scam Reported in Jackson County
It never ceases to amaze me that in this day and age with all the stories about scams to watch out for, that people still fall for the same old things. Now officials are reporting a phone scam targeting people in Jackson County.
Jackson County Sheriff A.J, Louderback says scammers are calling residents using a caller ID clone system that shows Jackson County Hospital is calling. The caller is then asking residents for personal financial information. The Sheriff says that if you get a call like that, you should never give that information out over the phone, especially if you didn't initiate the call. Hang up and call the institution to verify that they were trying to reach you but, look up the number yourself, and never call back the number shown in the caller ID.
Louderback said these scammers typically go after elderly people, but thay could try to scam anyone. If you do receive a call like that can report it to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at 361-785-3541.
