How ‘Green’ is Our Valley? Apparently, Not Very

Earth Day is coming up this weekend (Saturday, April 22nd) and you'd think most of the United States was pretty good at being earth-friendly by now. I'm not talking about whole solar-powered electric grids or a majority of vehicles powered by hybrid motors, but a state as big as Texas, which not only has plenty of sunshine year round but, also plenty of wind, I would think we were a little farther ahead of other states in that kind of progress. Unfortunately, we're near the bottom in a lot of areas.

According to WalletHub's survey of 2017's Greenest States, we rank not that great in a number of stats.

Greenness of Texas (1=Greenest, 25=Avg.):

• 44^th – Air Quality
• 36^th – Soil Quality
• 28^th – Water Quality
• 35^th – % of Recycled Municipal Solid Waste
• 43^rd – % of Energy Consumption from Renewable Sources
• 45^th – Energy Consumption per Capita
• 38^th – Gasoline Consumption (in Gallons) per Capita
