6 Alamo Drafthouse theaters have abruptly closed following bankruptcy filings.

5 Texas Alamo Drafthouse Closing

The impacted locations include 5 theaters in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas and one in Minnesota. The closures are immediate, with employees notified of their termination.

A message circulating on social media revealed the owners lost over $1 million in 2023. The closures coincide with a challenging period for the movie industry which is still grappling with the aftermath of COVID-19 production shutdowns and the 2023 actors and writers strikes, leading to fewer theatrical releases.

Two is One, One is None, LLC issued a press release explaining their decision, stating they invested over $3.5 million into payroll and operations in 2023 and attempted various cost-cutting measures.

Despite these efforts, the pandemic and industry strike severely impacted their business. The first quarter of 2024 was recorded as the worst for movie-going on record for Alamo Drafthouse.

Spokesperson Issues Statement About the Closures

A spokesperson for Alamo Drafthouse corporate provided the following statement:

"We are very disappointed to learn today that our franchisee, which operates five locations in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX and one in Woodbury, MN has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and is closing their business effective immediately. We are heartbroken for the franchisee's teammates and the local film communities, however, we are working as quickly as possible to get Alamo Drafthouse Cinema back up and running in these cities. All other Alamo Drafthouse locations are operating as normal, with continued expansion plans across the country."
