My Visit to Rockport-Strong and Getting Stronger
I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days in Rockport earlier this week and let me tell you, it was fantastic.
My wife and I stayed at a great hotel called the Inn at Fulton Harbor, a nice, comfortable, friendly place with great views, a nice cool breeze off the water, and super friendly people. It had been some time since we visited last, so we were anxious to see how the area has fared after suffering a lot of serious damage from Hurricane Harvey. I'm happy to tell you the area has come back nicely. Yes, there were still some homes and businesses in the process of rebuilding but, for the most part, people were back to doing what Texans do, living their lives and getting back to business.
When it comes to great food, especially seafood, Rockport-Fulton is the best. We enjoyed soft-shelled crab and stuffed flounder at a place called Charlotte Plummers, which was outstanding. We also had burgers at Benchwarmers (you have to try their shoestring fries), which was a great lunch. I definitely have to return to try other things on both restaurants menus because they looked so good! We also had an excellent traditional breakfast at Our Family Kitchen, where breakfast is served all day. My kind of place.
Spending our days taking in the sights was fun, exploring shops and relaxing along the water. We also ventured to Goose Island State Park to enjoy the scenery, including the wildlife, the water and the big tree. I only had one complaint about our visit, that we didn't have more time to explore.
By the way, you can vote for Rockport in the USA Today 10 Best Reader's Choice poll for Best Coastal Small Town. Vote once each day through May 6th!
