Say Goodbye to Texas Traffic Light Cameras
They have been around for a while amid controversy but now, traffic light cameras will be going away in the Lone Star State.
Governor Greg Abbott officially signed a bill into law over the weekend that puts the red light on the red light cameras.
Critics have called the use of the cameras unconstitutional and a traffic hazard themselves, while supporters have said they believe the cameras promote safety and raise money for the cities that use them. A typical fine for a citation issued as a result of the cameras is $75.
Some cities will continue to use the cameras until their contracts with the camera vendors expire, while others are negotiating to end their contracts before then.
