Honoring the Legends Who Keep Tejano Alive

This past Saturday, May 24th, at the 17th Annual Memorial Weekend Bash in Victoria, TX — the biggest Tejano festival in the region — four individuals were honored with the prestigious Vic Gonzalez Keeping Tejano Alive Award: — and these recipients truly embody that spirit. The cover photo was the incredible work of Mariaelena Villareal Photography

Don Freddie Martinez – A true living legend and the iconic founder of Freddie Records, whose contributions have shaped generations of Tejano music.
Carn Guerra – The first Mexican-American to own a 100,000-watt radio stationCasa Blanca Broadcasting. A true pioneer of the airwaves.
Mikey Mike – A Houston-based promoter who has brought the very best of Tejano to the stage for decades, making a lasting impact in the Houston music scene.

Bo Corona – One of the most recognized voices in Tejano radio for over 25 years and on KLUB Tejano since we launched. Heard on multiple stations, Bo continues to represent and elevate the genre every single day. One of the most humble people you can meet.

With over 23,000 in attendance, this year's Memorial Weekend Bash was one for the books.

A thank you to event promoter Frank Salazar of Salazar Promotions, who shared with us"It was an honor to recognize these four legends. Without them, Tejano music wouldn’t be where it is today. We need more individuals like Don, Carn, Mikey, and Bo — their passion keeps our Tejano Music alive.

The Memorial Bash Weekend has been happening right here in Victoria for 17 years.  Tell us who you want to see next year…
