The Texas Zoo in Riverside Park may be the 'Best Tourist Attraction in 2018' according to readers of the Victoria Advocate, but it may not remain in the park for too much longer.

At a meeting this week of tourism partners, city of Victoria spokesman O.C. Garza said the issue isn't if the zoo should move, but when it should move.

Riverside Park is in a flood prone area, and the zoo is listed on government flood maps as one of the lowest spots in the city.

The Texas Zoo has suffered serious flooding in the past from Hurricane Harvey rains that overflowed the river that did considerable damage, including killing nine of the zoo's animals. Just a few years ago, the zoo had to be closed for three weeks due to river flooding, and back in 1998, as many as seventy-five animals died or escaped as a result of serious flooding that year.

Zoo officials meanwhile say they have no immediate plans to relocate, but they are always keeping it under consideration.
