Let's face it. No matter what your political beliefs are, you have to admit immigrants make up a very large chunk of our population here in the U.S. 32% in Houston alone.

There is a grass roots movement gaining steam called "Day Without Immigrants" where immigrants from all walks of life are encouraged to not show up for work, open their businesses, take their kids to school or even spend any money.

The day? February 16th. Yes, that is today. It'll be interesting to see how this all unfolds. I'm sure with a little more notice this could really have a huge impact on this country considering 1 in every 4 people living in Houston alone were born in another country.

Immigrants are an integral part of our structure in this country. It's what this country was built on. None of us are "from" here per say. At some point, one of our ancestors immigrated here from another country. I believe immigrants should be welcomed with open arms. I'm also realistic and I'm aware some of them do so illegally which I am NOT OK with.

I have a friend who is from England. He came to Texas years ago. He spent a lot of time and money and became a citizen of the U.S. And I believe that's the way it should work. If you love this country and want to be a part of it, you have to learn the rules and law of the land...it's that simple. With that being said though it'll be interesting to see how this movement takes shape in the future. I'm sure this will be a hot button topic of discussion for at least the next 4 years...

Catch my drift?
