1 Year-Old Baby Abandoned Inside Houston Apartment Starving and ‘Eating His Own Feces’
CHILD DANGEROUSLY WANDERING
A maintenance man at a Houston apartment complex stumbled onto a horrific discovery as he was walking the property. The worker noticed a small child dangerously wandering around the apartment's swimming pool alone.
Troubled, the worker called the local police and described the young child as 'dirty, barefoot, and appearing to have no parental supervision.' Police arrived soon after the phone call and located the little girl and her older brother who was now with her.
A TROUBLING DISCOVERY
The scene continued to spiral as the older brother then led the Houston Police Department officers to their apartment unit. When police entered the apartment, they found four other children inside, alone.
The six children at the apartment were all between the ages of 2 and 9. As police began to inspect the home they continued to make devastating discoveries.
CHILDREN ABANDONED
Not only were the young children alone, it was apparent they had been left there to fend for themselves for quite some time. The children were living in disgusting conditions.
STARVING AND FILTHY
The youngest child, a one-year-old, was found in his crib and was apparently so hungry "the had eaten his own excrement." The oldest, a 9-year-old boy, was "filthy, covered in dirt, and infested with lice," according to police reports.
The children were fending for themselves including one child who has "special needs and is unable to care for himself, according to investigators."
WHERE ARE THEIR PARENTS?
Two Houston mothers, Riccy Padilla-Hernandez, 28, and Yures Molina, 34, are responsible for the disheartening discovery. Padilla-Hernandez’s children were ages 2, 3, and 7 and Molina’s children were ages 1, 8, and 9.
While police were inside the home, Padilla-Hernandez returned to the apartment. When questioned, she informed police she was “doing her taxes” while she was out. Molina, who is currently seven months pregnant, was not present.
OUT ON BOND
The two women were arrested but soon bonded out at $15,000 each after appearing in court earlier this month and being charged with the felony child endangering. The children have been placed in the custody of Children’s Protective Services.
