Robert Francis O'Rourke has announced he is now running for Governor of Texas.

Will Beto O'Rourke be our Democratic Gov of Texas?

Here is the announcement from MSNBC on Youtube.

Dubbed an 'uphill battle' by Texas Monthly, their article, which you can read here, offers that the former three-term congressman from El Paso, who had run losing bids for U.S. Senate against Ted Cruz in 2018 and for president in 2020, is not expected to face any serious challengers for his party’s nomination.

He will seek to become the first Democrat to win statewide office in Texas since 1994, ending the longest statewide losing streak in America for either party.

He will face incumbent Texas Governor Greg Abbott who has been serving as the Gov. of Texas since 2015.

Is this a race Beto could win?

"One of O’Rourke’s top goals, Democrats agree, should be to ensure the race is a referendum on Abbott, who this year ushered through some of the most conservative laws in recent Texas memory," offers The Texas Tribune.

The race is on.
