Alright, alright, alright. You running for Governor, man? Be a lot cooler if you did.

Well, Matthew McConaughey might run for Governor of Texas. When asked about it, the UT alum has said it is a "true consideration." If you're wondering how he would do if he were to run, a new poll was released by the Dallas Morning News and University of Texas-Tyler. That poll shows McConaughey has a whopping 12 point lead over current Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The poll shows that 45 percent of registered voters support McConaughey, and 33 percent would back Governor Abbott.

Considering Governor Abbott is a Republican, the support for McConaughey must be coming from Democrats, right? Not really. McConaughey has been critical of both parties and this helps him gets votes from both sides of the aisle. The majority of support for McConaughey does come from Democrats as the majority of Republicans would still support Governor Abbott.

UT-Tyler political scientist and poll director Mark Owens said:

Matthew McConaughey gets a huge boost from tremendous name recognition and recognition for what he does to help Texans and add to the celebration of the state’s successes. Most of our survey respondents know his story, but many are waiting to see how he opens his next chapter.

The poll surveyed 1,126 Texans between April 6th and April 13th. Not a ton is known about McConaughey's political leanings, but early in his memoir, Greenlights, he says that he comes from:

outlaw libertarians who vote red down the line because they believe it’ll keep fewer outlaws from trespassin on their territory.
