Spring storms mean mosquitoes! I went outside yesterday, and after just a few seconds, my leg was already being swarmed! The City of Victoria Parks and Recreation Departments will start spraying later this week, weather permitting.  Please note that the spray cannot be used in rain or strong winds.
According to a press release,  the Texas Department of Agriculture regulates where and how often spraying can take place. So you will see crews spraying for multiple days across Victoria.  While spraying will help, residents are encouraged to practice mosquito safeguards as well.

Mosquito dunks will help with mosquitoes around your house.

·         Pour out standing water or treat it with mosquito dunks. You can pick up a free mosquito dunk at the Victoria Parks and Recreation Department, one per household. You can also pick up a mosquito dunk at most hardware stores.

Here are a few tips to help combat mosquitoes.

  • Keep the grass cut and well-trimmed to prevent adult mosquitoes from resting.
  • Keep gutters clean so that rainwater can drain properly.
  • Remove or cover containers that could hold water.

You can request to have your home sprayed.

Residents can report a mosquito problem by using the Victoria, Texas 311 app or by going to www.victoriatx.gov and clicking “Report a Concern.”
