Recently, we polled our listeners about one restaurant that you could bring back to Victoria. There were a ton of responses! It appears that The Texas Drive Inn, Hungry Jacks, and Furrs were probably mentioned the most.  Speaking of bringing back restaurants, Mr Gattis is coming back to Victoria VERY SOON!

Also mentioned many times were Siesta Restaurant and El Toro, which I have always considered the best Mexican Food to ever hit Victoria.  See the story below.

WE MISS SIESTA AND EL TORO:

This week we remember two of the best Mexican restaurants that Victoria has ever seen. Siesta Restaurant on Houston Highway and El Toro on Port Lavaca Highway.  I mean, I still remember walking through the front door of Siesta and being greeted by Josie before ordering the McCall's Enchiladas I still consider the refried beans at Siesta to be the best ever to be served at a Mexican Restaurant.

While Siesta was absolutely bomb, I always considered their sister restaurant El Toro just a little bit better when it came to food quality. The food was always hot and the portion size was very generous and the building itself had just a little more personality.  From using the tiny bathrooms in the corner to using the parking lot that you entered in on Callis St. El Toro was definitely one of a kind. Both restaurants were run by the Trevino family.

Siesta closed its doors for good in 2012 after 56 years of business in Victoria. Frances Maries currently sits at the old Siesta location and pays tribute to the Trevino family with many menu items that were featured at Siesta.  The old El Toro location has been various Mexican Restaurants but none have been as successful as El Toro.
