Texans Across the State Pulling for DPS Trooper Chad Walker
In case you missed the story over the weekend, Texans around the state are sending up prayers for Texas DPS Trooper Chad Walker who was shot on Friday evening in Mexia, Texas.
Walker was responding to a call about a motorist in distress when he arrived on the scene and was shot by DeArthur Pinson Jr. who was inside the vehicle that Walker had shown up to assist. The officer was shot in the head and the chest according to kristv.com. DPS Sgt. Nathan Brandley told kristc.com that Walker began his career with DPS in the Coastal Bend area. KXXV.com reports that Pinson Jr. fled the scene of the shooting. His body was later found not far from the scene of the initial shooting. Pinson Jr. reportedly died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A GoFundMe page was created for the family of DPS Trooper Chad Walker which can be found here. The page has raised over $80,000 for the family and is still active and accepting donations. Chad Walker is still in a Waco hospital in critical condition. Walker is a father of 4 with a 15-year-old son, twin daughters who are seven, and he also has a baby daughter at home who is just a couple of months old.
Abc13.com reports Pinson Jr. opened fire on Trooper Walker before he even brought his vehicle to a complete stop. Pinson Jr. is said to have emerged from his vehicle the moment Walker arrived on the scene and fired several rounds through the Trooper's windshield.
