It doesn't get very cold around here too often but when it does, it makes everyday struggles even more difficult for Victoria's homeless population and for the next several days, we're expecting some very cold temperatures. In order to help those that need a place to keep warm, the Victoria Area Homeless Coalition is helping, and they could use some assistance.

The coalition plans to open a warming center next week but for the immediate time being, they want to make hotel rooms available for Sunday and Monday, when temperatures are expected to dip into the low 30's and upper 20's.

The coalition is asking for monetary donations, $126 would pay for 2 days, and they are also in need of volunteers. Volunteers are needed from 5-8pm, from 8pm-12midnight, from 12midnight to 6am, and from 6am-8am. They could also use donations of food.

Donations can be made at Mid-Coast Family Services office at 111 South Liberty Street in Victoria. If you need shelter, would like to volunteer, or for more information, call Lisa Griffin at 361-575-7842. After hours, call 361-935-1451.
