The last 48 hours have seen a whirlwind of cancellations throughout the state of Texas due to the coronavirus or COVID-19.

Every major sport you might have wanted to watch in the month of March has been suspended, including MLB, the NBA, the NHL, the NCAA Tournament, and now the PGA Masters. Right here at home, there are some area events that have been called off this weekend that we wanted to pass along. Cancellations according to Crossroadstoday.com include:

UVH has canceled classes for today in favor of beginning their spring break a couple of days early. The school is on Spring Break next week and will decide to resume classes and activities after further evaluating the situation in Victoria County sometime next week.

UHV will also be canceling their trip to China to study abroad. They have also canceled their American Book Review book reading.

The Homeless Symposium has canceled their meeting after speakers had to cancel due to concerns about the virus in the area.

Texas Mile says they are watching the situation closely, and right now they say that they do not see this situation impacting their event but things could change.

VISD is discussing social distancing within their district.

Edna, Texas will postpone their Chalk It Up and Flag City Community Market Events scheduled for tomorrow (March 14th).

Wharton County Junior College will extend spring break through March 22nd.
