South Texas Experienced an Earthquake on Super Bowl Sunday
Some of our friends in the Cuero, Texas area felt a whole lotta shaking going on Sunday and it wasn't just a Super Bowl pre-party.
An earthquake was reported by the U.S. Geological Service to be centered in Smiley, Texas, just north of Cuero and about 42 miles to the Northwest of the city of Victoria.
A smaller earthquake began in nearly the exact same area toward the end of last summer when a 2.4 magnitude earthquake was reported about 13 miles to the east of Smiley Texas. The earthquake from Sunday, February 7th measured a 3.3 magnitude according to Crossroadstoday.com.
Sunday's earthquake was only 3.1 miles beneath the surface not far from Victoria. The local time of the event was recorded at 2:40 pm on Sunday the 7th. Seismologists continue to review their data and calculations this week.
If you felt the earthquake on Sunday afternoon we would love to hear from you. What was your location when you felt the earthquake? Just as important as data from those who felt the ground moving are reports from anyone who may have been in the area who did NOT feel anything. U.S. GS also wants to hear about those reports. You can comment on social media or you can use our free station app to send us a message about what you felt or saw on Sunday.
