Scam Alert: That Phone Call from the Sheriff’s Office is Probably Not Legit
If you've gotten a phone call from someone claiming to be a deputy from the Victoria County Sheriff's Office warning of a warrant, it's probably a fake.
The department has issued a warning to residents that someone claiming to be a deputy has been calling people telling them that they have a warrant for a missed court date, or an unpaid traffic ticket. That's not to say that you don't have one but, the Sheriff's office, along with pretty much any other government agency, has a policy of contacting people officially by mail so, the call may be an attempt to get personal information or cash.
The Sheriff's office reminds you that if you have any questions, you can call them at 361-575-0651 to talk to either a deputy or with the warrants division.
