Victoria Makes List as One of the Most Dangerous Cities in Texas…..Again
When you think Texas you think southern hospitality. Not saying every state doesn't have their fair share of people who like to cause trouble. This list is compiled using crime statistics per capita.
1. Bexar County
In 2015, there were 1,793 sexual assaults in Bexar County compared to far less than 1,000 in most other counties.
2. Midland/Odessa
In 2013, Odessa had 645 cases of aggravated assault per every 100,000 residents
3. Lubbock
Lubbock is notorious for robbery, reporting 658 cases per 100,000 occupants in 2013.
4. Amarillo
Amarillo had a higher number of reported rapes than any other city in Texas, with 85 per 100,000 inhabitants. This makes it the sixth most violent city in Texas.
5. Houston
It makes sense that Houston would make this list given its large population, but the specifics might surprise you a bit. Although the city is ranked the third most dangerous place in the state, it isn't primarily for violent crime - it's for robbery. There are 233 robberies per every 100,000 people and only 6 murders.
6. Beaumont/Port Arthur
These neighboring cities get extremely dangerous when the sun sets.
7. Texarkana
Texarkana was ranked the fourth most dangerous city in Texas in 2013, with its high number of assaults giving it that spot.
8. Victoria
Victoria was the eighth most dangerous city in the entire state as of 2013, with 72 reported rapes per 100,000 residents - more than double the statewide average.
9. Corpus Christi
This tourist city has a higher murder rate, at 5.4 per every 100,000 people, than any surrounding city. This statistic makes it the seventh most dangerous city in Texas.
So there you have it Victoria. You finally make a list and it's this one. In all fairness these stats are from 2013-2015 and I'm sure some things have changed. Let's hope they have anyway...it'll be a couple of years before we find out.
