As Victoria and the Crossroads do their best to thaw out after Sunday night's winter storm, road closures remain in place throughout our County.

The freezing rain and sleet say a number of accidents in Victoria on Sunday afternoon and evening, many of which took place on U.S 59 or Zac Lentz Parkway. By 4 PM yesterday, Victoria Police confirmed 12 vehicle accidents related to the weather.

Crossroadstoday.com reports the following road closures in Victoria County:

  • Highway 87 is closed, traffic is being sent to Farm to Market 1090with traffic being diverted to Farm to Market 1090.
  • Highway 59 is now open at the spur with traffic able to access the northbound lanes.

In Dewitt County, several roads were closed by 7 pm and may stay closed through this evening. Those include the 183 North Bridge, 72 between Nordheim and Karnes County, 87 in Cuero has numerous ice patches, 72 between Cuero and Yorktown is also riddled with ice patches.

Many Texans refer back to the winter of 1989 the last time temps got this cold in the area. Let's hope we can get another three decades in before we have to deal with all of that again. Something tells me it may be sooner than we think.

Remember once the temps start to climb a little bit that your poor tires probably don't know what to think. You'll want to add some air once we get back above freezing. What if I told you we are only about 1 month away from the first day of spring? It's coming up on March 20th. We can't wait to get there!
