A Trip Down Memory Lane for My Victoria Tejanos and Tejanitas
Back in the day in Victoria, there were so many hotspots for Tejano music in Victoria. The Sun Valley, Riverside Convention Center, and the Bluebonnet Convention Center were definitely hotspots for Tejano music in Victoria. Aside from the big halls, there were a plethora of Tejano music 'clubs' in this town. Do these names bring back any memories to you?
THE WEST KEY LOUNGE:
The Houston Highway was popping on weekend nights during the 80s and 90s, Whether you remember jamming to the mix of Carlos 'Mixmaster' Guerra or some of the biggest names in Tejano music, check out this clipping I found of an old advertisement for the West Key featuring Shelly Lares!
ROBERTO'S COCKTAILS:
Don't let its size fool you. Every weekend you could find the biggest Tejano names performing at Roberto's Cocktails. The two artists that quickly come to mind when I think of Roberto's are Albert Zamora Y Talento and Ruben Ramos. However, David Lee, The Hometown Boys, Ram Herera, well, basically any big Tejano names graced its stage. Check out this ad for Intocable at Roberto's.
TEJANO COUNTRY:
This one came around a little later and was the last 'great' Tejano Club in Victoria. This was a Tejano hotspot that got things started every Thursday night. Some of the best shows I have seen there: DLG, Bobby Pulido, Jay Perez, Michael Salgado, David Olivarez, and Jaime Y Los Chamcos, just to name a 'few' What show do you remember seeing at Tejano Country?
I know there are many others, however, these are the three clubs that really remind us of the Tejano vibe in the 90s' in Victoria.
