Houston Texans React to Racist Comment from Texas School Superintendent
A racist comment from the superintendent of the Onalaska, Texas school district that criticized Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson sparked overwhelming support for Watson from the Coach Bill O'Brien and the rest of the team.
Lynn Redden is the superintendent of the East Texas school district, and commenting on the loss the Texans suffered at the hands of the Tennessee Titans on a Facebook post, Redden said "you can't count on a black quarterback." That comment which drew countless reactions taking the school administrator to task, was taken down shortly thereafter. School district officials are considering what action if any should be taken against Redden.
At this week's press conference, Texans Head Coach Bill O'Brien didn't hold anything back.
“I don’t want to spend a lot of time responding to outdated, inaccurate, ignorant, idiotic statements,” O’Brien said. “I’ll just let Deshaun’s proven success on the field, his character off the field, speak for itself. He’s one of the greatest guys I’ve ever coached. He represents everything that is right about football, about life. His teammates respect him, this coaching staff respects him.”
The Texans take on the struggling New York Giants in the home opener at NRG Stadium this Sunday. Game time at 12:00 noon with the pregame at 11:30 right here on KLUB Classic Rock 106.9.
